#DoSomethingYummy Week 3: Getting together with friends

So, it's now week 3 of the blog prompts from Nickie at I Am Typecast . Nickie has invited bloggers and readers to support the CLIC Sargent charity. Nickie is promoting CLIC Sargeant and Yummy Mummy Week which takes place from the 10th to 18th March 2012.

Nickie posts about why this is important to her and how you can get involved
here.

The prompt for week 3 is Getting together

Not to sound like too much of a loner, when it comes to friends I am definitely a less is more person. I am a rubbish friend, and where some people will make me green eyed as they recall texts every day, phone calls all the time, regular coffee sessions, and plenty of nights out, I have to keep my foot in reality. It is sad to say but working full time, three children, the husband, and all the chaos and mess which follow us mean that I honestly do not have a clue where I could find the time.

So, I am fortunate enough to have the best friends, the ones who put up with me and are always there for me when I need them.

I have my work friends. The clue wasn't in the title. I have learned in ten years of working at the same place that the real friends are the ones who keep in contact after you stop working together. I can now boast that I have probably spent more time not working with these lovely peeps than working with them. And, typically, they have both gone on to be so much happier since we have stopped working together. When I lived up North we tried to get together often, and I must get my butt into gear and arrange another meet. This was the last time I saw them together at Tatton Park:

And then I have my 'homies' (oh how this is the most straightforward way of referring to them), the lovely peeps whom I have known since college. And as far as 'getting together' is concerned, I even have a New Year's Resolution to cover this. Last Sunday was the first get together, and as suspected, life does get in the way and only two of my three homies could make it, this was my sad attempt at a photo (sad as it misses half the participants- note to self: use the view finder!)

And yet, probably the best get together of late has been that of New Year's Eve, as always it is the ones that are organised at the last minute that are the best- even though I can rarely cope with last minute plans.
New Year's Eve this year was at ours, with two 'homies' and their OHs. We began a tradition in October involving J├Ągermeister, and as it was New Year's Eve 'the men' decided to add fireworks to the equation. Key highlights included:
  • J slipping over in a bid to light a firework and mud applying itself to his gorgeous new coat
  • Man popping his head over the fence to introduce himself as our neighbour, at about 2am.
  • 'Someone' claiming "You'll never get me at this" as the Yes/ No game commenced, she'll say 'no' next time.
  • From "We're not staying S isn't feeling too good" to "Well, if he's drinking, we're staying"
The best times always do come from the least well prepared, because there are no expectations.

The next day four of us went for a brisk walk at Barry Island.  And unlike being a teenager you appreciate that a bit of fresh air does sort a 'bad pint'.

  3. I'm with you on the 'unprepared' nights being the best. Also the ones I can't be bothered to go on tend to be great nights too. x

  4. Brilliant post! I am a firm believer that with friendship quality is far better than quantity, and I don't believe that you are a rubbish friend one bit!

Your night out sounds like it was lots of fun!

  6. "A friend to all is a friend to none" Aristotle. Better to have a few good friendships that are real. xo
