Looking forward... being grateful

With the little ones back in school.
And our holidays done for the year.

It is important to keep looking forward.
Mr J and I have been in the regrettable situation of discussing the 'C' word this evening, as we budget for the holiday season.

And in the process, I've begun to look forward to the Autumn.
In August it felt like Autumn (as we were trying to enjoy our summer camping holiday),
And now, in September, we're back to thinking about sunscreen.

But as I look forward to blackberry picking, conkers, and hopefully our first Messy Church focused on Harvest Festival, I am taken to this song.

And it makes me happy,
for days past, and for days to come.

I know mine won't ever believe it, and sometimes I find it difficult,
but school days really did and do have their hidden gems.
Maybe not the happiest days I was promised.
But the ones that formed a person,
Introduced the people who would becomes friends for life.

And this, this song by Estelle White,
I still remember and appreciate every element.
And so, I look forward to our Autumn.
Autumn days, when the grass is jewelled
And the silk inside a chestnut shell
Jet planes meeting in the air to be refuelled
All these things I love so well

So I mustn't forget
No, I mustn't forget
To say a great big thank you
I mustn't forget.

Clouds that look like familiar faces
And a winter's moon with frosted rings
Smell of bacon as I fasten up my laces
And the song the milkman sings.

So I mustn't forget
No, I mustn't forget
To say a great big thank you
I mustn't forget.

Whipped-up spray that is rainbow-scattered
And a swallow curving in the sky
Shoes so comfy though they're worn out and they're battered
And the taste of apple pie.

So I mustn't forget
No, I mustn't forget
To say a great big thank you
I mustn't forget.

Scent of gardens when the rain's been falling
And a minnow darting down a stream
Picked-up engine that's been stuttering and stalling
And a win for my home team.

So I mustn't forget
No, I mustn't forget
To say a great big thank you
I mustn't forget.
